Director's Commentary Just Recorded
I just recorded my Director's Commentary at the IndiePix studio for the upcoming international release of Deployment Strategy. It was pretty fun. It was my first time doing a recording like this so I was a little nervous because I wanted to make sure I had enough to talk about! The night before I re-watched the film and made mental notes in each scene and for several special effects shots that I wanted to talk about. The next morning on the train to work, I watched the movie twice in a row! I was scheduled to do the session at 2pm so I skipped lunch and headed out a little beforehand to IndixPix which was a subway stop south of Times Square where I work.
The way it works, at least for IndiePix, is that they do a couple of recording sessions and then cut and paste together the best parts of each to make one, hopefully interesting commentary. Knowing that I was really on my lunch break and that DS is 30 minutes, I was hoping to get it in the can in two sessions tops.
Abraham was the IndiePix studio guy who set the whole thing up in a private office with an audio deck connected to an apple computer. We both wore ear phones and Abraham played DS on the big monitor in front of me while i spoke into a hand held mic.
Once we got started it was a lot of fun! I thought at first that I'd be painfully aware of what i was saying, my grammer, and whether or not I used complete sentences, but i forgot all that thankfully and just chatted away telling anecdotes or explaining how an fx shot was created or how a prop was built. I won't reveal too much here but one of the things I was really happy about was how I managed to touch upon how each party's contribution added to the overall film. That includes the actors, prop master, DP, fx studios and soundtrack composer. I hope you guys get to check it out - especially the filmmakers - cuz i think it's worth while!!
