story/plot

That's right it's free to watch online!! I should have done this a while ago, but i've been busy writing the sequel and enjoying personal time! enjoy!

Deployment Strategy - chapter 1 of 3 from markcheng on Vimeo.

The other two chapters are viewable after the jump!

Here is the official final trailer for Deployment Strategy.

[BTW: did you know you can now watch the whole film online for free? Deployment Strategy is now entirely on vimeo. This is the link to chapter 1 of 3.]

Deployment Strategy the Official Trailer is now online!!! I've got tons of different media formats for your viewing pleasure! come see!

Gizmodo today has such a great post about a new South Korean campaign for robot rights!! It gave me the jeebs cuz Deployment Strategy touches on this exact thing in the future where AI is not only possible but wide spread on the torrents and P2P networks!! I was compelled to post the article link here as well as this clip from the film after the jump!

The first draft of Deployment Strategy was completed in March 2005. There were approximately 3 complete revisions and a brazilian tweaks made all over the place before any pre-production began. It continued to change all throughout pre-production and changed some more during the shoot as it came out of actors’ mouths. (isn’t that always the case?)

How I describe the movie depends on how much time you have.

If we met in the elevator I’d say,
"Deployment Strategy is like Aliens + Bladerunner with some Evil Dead 2 in it. There are guns and cyborgs in it."

First off, lets talk about this image! As you may know, our story revolves around the mission of D9 to detain and question Daniel Richards, a rogue programmer with complete disregard for Federal regulatory standards governing AI software development. There is a key point in the film...

...where the Richards' dossier is revealed and the true nature of the government's interest is finally disclosed. this image is one of a 5 image sequence that shows screens for Richards' dossier. I had to crop the image because it contains a key plot point and I don't want to ruin the story for you! I'll try and post more of them later on. Right now, I'm trying to break down how I want these screens to animate in the film!

Hey all,

Had a really productive editing weekend! Completed the roughcut for a couple of cool scenes...Thought I'd post some stills from them for you to see.

The main sequences I started on were ones that revealed the rogue programmer, his employer, and his "pet" sexbot. That lead straight into the first confrontation scene with the soldiers of D9.

It was great to be interacting with the footage again because the raw clips always bring you back to the fun you had during shooting!

this is easy:

  • Ghost in the Shell
  • Aliens
  • Terminator
  • Starship Troopers (shut up, that was cool!)
  • Robocop
  • Transformers
  • Appleseed
  • Blade Runner

If you loved any one of these, and haven't seen one of the others, go rent and watch it!! (Btw, Star Wars was assumed-duh)

The story revolves around Lee's first mission with D9 as they go to bust a programmer who's conducting illegal software development. The idea came to me when I was coding for a client (I run a consulting business) and pondered on the wisdom of beta testing an application before releasing it into production.

The financial applications I help develop need to be thoroughly tested before being released into production on a website for the world wide web to use..if there are bugs, people complain, the company loses customers and trillions of dollars, and I get blamed...so imagine a world where artificial intelligence is possible..a gazillion lines of code can program a soul...think of how important beta testing would be!!

So I just thought I'd add that the green text in the flash banner above actually starts the film. A half an hour isn't a lot of time to introduce a whole new world, so this paragraph paints the basic world and context in which the story takes place...

I've always liked film openings like these from Blade Runner to the Terminator to the Kingdom of Heaven! Of course that's not the only reason why we have an opening paragraph in our film :D

Who Am I and why in the world...
...am i doing this?? I ask myself this all the freaking time but the conclusion is always the same- I don't know why, all I know is that I just must, must, must make this film...
